We sat down with Hazeltree Chief Technology Officer, Dipankar D. Roy ("Roy") to discuss how the Hazeltree platform transforms treasury from a back-office function into a strategic growth lever.

Q: Treasury and liquidity management have become top priorities for CFOs. How does Hazeltree help firms stay ahead in such a fast-moving environment?

Roy (CTO): Hedge funds and private equity firms face one of the toughest challenges today: ensuring liquidity is always available, but never idle. At Hazeltree, we provide a real-time, consolidated view of cash, credit facilities, and investor commitments. That means CFOs can make rapid, confident decisions about whether to fund deals with investor capital, credit, or cash on hand.

With deep experience at the intersection of finance and technology, I see both sides: the financial levers firms need to pull, and the technology that makes it possible. Our mission is simple: turn liquidity into a strategic advantage, not a bottleneck.

Q: AI has become a buzzword in finance. How is Hazeltree actually using AI in a practical, valuable way?

Roy (CTO): For us, AI isn’t hype. It’s embedded into the way treasury operates.

  • AI Agents: We’re developing intelligent treasury agents that act like a CFO’s co-pilot. They don’t just present liquidity data; they recommend the optimal funding route, highlight risks, and simulate outcomes.
  • Automated Reconciliation: Machine learning matches investor capital calls with bank transactions, reducing operational errors and delays.
  • Predictive Analytics: AI forecasts liquidity needs and credit utilization, flagging potential shortfalls before they occur.
  • Natural Language Interfaces: CFOs can ask in plain English, “What’s my liquidity if interest rates rise 50 bps?” and get instant, actionable answers.

We’re shifting treasury from reactive reporting to proactive, AI-driven strategy.

Q: Hedge funds and PE firms are growing in complexity. How does Hazeltree’s platform scale with them?

Roy (CTO): Scalability is at the core of our architecture. We’re cloud-native on AWS with multi-region resiliency across the U.S. and EU. The platform is designed for both single-tenant and multi-tenant deployments, so whether you’re a mid-size fund or a global institution, performance is consistent.

Event-driven workflows ensure liquidity events are processed instantly, no matter how many funds or investors you manage. And because data volumes grow exponentially with fund size, our infrastructure is built to handle high-throughput, low-latency processing at scale.

Q: Security and compliance are critical for institutional investors. How does Hazeltree address this?

Roy (CTO): Security is non-negotiable. We operate in dedicated AWS Virtual Private Clouds with strong isolation, and we’ve embedded zero-trust security models throughout the platform.

We are certified for SOC 2 and ISO 27001, and we comply with GDPR for our global clients. Beyond compliance, we continuously invest in DevSecOps practices, embedding security into every stage of development and operations. For our clients, that means peace of mind: their most sensitive financial data is protected at the highest standard.

Q: Treasury is often seen as “back office.” Do you see that perception changing?

Roy (CTO): Without question. Treasury is becoming a strategic growth lever. When you optimize liquidity, you reduce financing costs, accelerate deal execution, and build LP trust. That’s front-office impact.

Hazeltree’s role is to give CFOs and treasurers the intelligence and tools to manage liquidity like a profit center, not just an operational necessity.

Q: Where do you see Hazeltree’s technology in the next 2–3 years?

Roy (CTO): Three big directions:

  1. AI-Native Treasury: Expanding AI agents that act as advisors, not just dashboards, and providing prescriptive actions and risk insights.
  2. Global Scalability: Extending our multi-region cloud architecture to handle the largest, most complex funds seamlessly, with near-zero downtime.
  3. Ecosystem Integration: Positioning Hazeltree as the connective hub across CRMs, ERPs, fund administrators, and trading platforms.

The vision is clear: make treasury intelligence predictive, scalable, and secure so firms can focus on generating alpha.

Q: What excites you most about leading Hazeltree’s technology vision?

Roy (CTO): Treasury and liquidity are the lifeblood of private markets, yet they’ve historically been underserved by innovation. What excites me is rewriting that story.

We’re giving CFOs the ability to see their entire liquidity picture in real time, leverage AI agents for smarter decision-making, and operate on a platform that scales with them globally and securely. That’s not just modernization. That’s transformation. And Hazeltree is leading it.
